A Finger Lakes Hired OJT Grant Turned My Career Around

keith-shelley

“Before Finger Lakes Hired I had work experience as a foreman in construction, a truck driver, laborer, and in assembly. This grant provided me with the opportunity to develop my existing skills in a new environment to learn to work in the growing industry of food production. I was given the opportunity to participate in a Work Tryout for three weeks as a Machine Operator/Mechanic, which showed the company that I am the right candidate for them. I was then provided On-The-Job Training for 8 weeks, which allowed me to learn the skills to perform various duties and become trained on the color sorter/electric eye CNC Machine. With the skills I was able to learn throughout my training, I was hired on by the company and continue working there. The skills I acquired through training, coupled with previous work experience and transferrable skills will allow me to work towards a Plant Supervisor Position. Thank you Finger Lakes Hired for helping this war time veteran get trained in a new industry so I can continue to provide for my family!”
